Sam Manafi / Tuesday, March 17, 2015 / Categories: Uncategorized Lower costs and better performance of LEDs surprise analysts Over the past three years LED Trail has championed the effort to reduce the cost of LED lighting products while substantially improving the performance and efficiency of LEDs. The breakneck pace of price reduction and quality enhancement has allowed us to help customers get substantially better than expected returns on their investments. Furthermore, the addition of controllability, and addressability of LED lighting has enabled customers to use these lights in ways that were not imaginable even a year ago (see here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/orphe-smart-shoes-for-artists-and-performers). A new study by a Danish Energy Agency, CLASP, demonstrates a thorough analysis of particularly unexpected developments as a result of the speed of change to show that LED lamps are now substantially lower in price and higher in performance than were expected to be even by the year 2020. Such cost reductions, in many cases, have resulted in payback periods of less than 1 year. CLASP CEO Christine Egan said, "Internationally, LED markets are evolving at warp speed, in terms of price and product quality. In Europe, some quality brand LED lamps on the market today are at price points that were only expected to be in shops in 2025, with features and characteristics that consumers care about. This new evidence should be very interesting to policymakers working on these issues." Furthermore, the ability of LEDs to encompass many types of sensors and connect via low voltage or power over Ethernet (POE) to data servers and controllers allows it to be easily integrated into the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. IoT is a hot new space in technology innovation where many top tier tech companies are investing heavily in. Light bulbs that captured the imagination of many over a century ago are once again back at the forefront of technology, and with it LED Trail lights the way!
